6 / Groove in Mosaic

When I was polishing data marketing experience, the thing I struggled with the most in processing data was to what extent conciseness should be applied. Abstraction is the key to data visualization. In order for long-winded data to reveal its context, a process of omitting and summarizing information is essential.

I have wondered to what extent these attempts are appropriate for efficient and more intuitive recognition. For more powerful and concise visualization, I performed an experiment looking for a neat level of schematization. My interest may be found in this work for that.

With years of career in social media marketing, I got interested in changes in social media. Since I first started Instagram in 2013, much has changed. And across nationality and culture, body movements and music has been strong communication tool for centuries. A big wave of Tiktok and short videos transcend national and cultural boundaries.
Since the movements from those media are simple and instantaneous, I tried them as a source to make it easily recognized for intuitiveness when more intensely elementarized.

Think Process

The tug-of-war between omission and immediate recognition has long been a topic of concern for designers. The core idea of the project is a journey searching for the appropriate boundary between those two.

So I tested with a simple image. Images above are generated with different intensities of the mosaic pixel resolution. We may not recognize the exact figure until step 2, but it may be different from step 3.
From the schematized image by the system, we try to infer its original shape from the ambiguous square.

In which step of the phase did you recognize the kid wearing a dinosaur costume?

Referring to the sample above, the lower resolution slider which is gauged phases, such as Phase 1, 2, and 3, for example, is more difficult to recognize the original shape with a lack of distinctness in shape and detail. However, the more schematized, the more potential they have stimulating imagination or strength of simplicity of shape or color to be borrowed as a design element
